Build-a-Helper Workshop
25 Minutes
Students will learn about community helpers and how they earn income.
Students will play a Who Am I Game and then they will learn about farmers and how they are an important community helper.
Students will become a community helper, farmer, and they will be able to “Plant a seed” and take it home.
Goods vs. Services Market
25 Minutes
Field Trip Educators will set up a mini “market” where kids can shop with pretend money.
Students will learn about goods and services. They will shop between a “Goods Table” and a “Services Table”.
Students will get to role play consumer etiquette.
Money Matters Station
25 Minutes
Students will learn how currency works and what it looks like.
Students will learn how to identify coins and go through different hands-on activities throughout this rotation. Students will learn coins by poems, coin rubbing art, and sorting fun!
STEM Builder Challenge – “Tools to Help”
25 Minutes
Students will learn that community workers use tools to solve problems.
Students will be given a challenge from a community helper. Students will work in groups to build simple structures from straws, recycled materials, and other materials.
The above rotations will cover SSKE1 (describe the work that people do such as: police officer, fire fighter, soldier, mail carrier, farmer, doctor, teacher, etc.); SSKE2 (explain that people earn income by working); and SSKE3 (explain how money is used to purchase goods and services).
