In or around 1870, William James Donaldson and his family built a house on a farm at what is now the corner of Chamblee Dunwoody and Vermack roads in the heart of present-day Dunwoody. Owned by the City of Dunwoody and managed by the Dunwoody Preservation Trust (DPT), the property is now listed on the Register of Historic Places as the Donaldson-Bannister Farm and has been a public park and private event venue since opening to the public in 2018. In honor of the farm’s 150th anniversary, the DPT is celebrating the Sesquicentennial in 2020 with a year of events honoring the history of the farm and the families who lived there and kept it going.
The year-long celebration will kick off on January 26 with a ticketed Champagne Concert, an Afternoon Tea on March 1, Descendants’ Day on May 3 and Preservation Celebration on Flag Day, June 14. Other events are planned for the fall.
